Privacy Policy

This policy explains what the AppScale Blog mobile app, published by AppScale LLP ("AppScale", "we", "us"), collects, why, and the choices you have. It applies to the AppScale Blog apps on the Apple App Store and Google Play. The website appscale.blog is covered by the AppScale privacy policy.

Reading needs no account

You can read, save, download and search every article without signing in. Without an account the app sends nothing about you to us: saved articles, downloads, reading progress, highlights and history stay on your device. To load articles the app requests them from our servers like any web page, which means your IP address is processed transiently to answer the request.

Information we collect when you sign in

An account is optional. It unlocks reactions, comments and syncing your shelf across devices. When you use it we process:

• Account & sign-in. Your email address, your name, and a user identifier, through Amazon Cognito. You may sign in with email and password, or with Sign in with Apple, Google, Facebook or LinkedIn; in that case the provider shares your email, name and a user identifier with us. We never receive your password for those providers.
• Your shelf. Which articles you saved, your reading position and whether you finished them, when you opened them, and your highlights (the quoted text and where it is in the article), so they sync between your devices.
• Reactions. The reaction you chose on an article.
• Comments. The comments you post and the name shown with them. Comments are reviewed before they appear publicly.

What the app does not do

• No advertising, no third-party analytics, no tracking across apps or websites. We do not sell your personal data.
• No location, contacts, photos, camera or microphone access.
• "Listen" reads articles aloud with your device's built-in speech engine; the text is not sent anywhere.
• The optional daily reminder is a notification scheduled on your device. It uses no push service and sends no device token to us. You can turn it off in your device's notification settings.

How we use your information

• Sign you in and keep you signed in.
• Sync your shelf, progress and highlights across your devices.
• Show reaction counts and publish your approved comments with your name.
• Moderate comments and respond to support requests.
• Meet legal and store-policy obligations.

Service providers

• Amazon Web Services (AWS) — hosting, accounts (Amazon Cognito) and databases. Data is stored in the AWS Asia Pacific (Mumbai) region, India.
• Apple, Google, Meta (Facebook) and LinkedIn — only if you choose to sign in with them, and only to confirm who you are.

Data retention & deletion

We keep your account, shelf, reactions and comments while your account is active. You can delete your account at any time in the app under Account → Delete account; this removes your profile, reactions, comments and synced shelf from our servers. Articles stored on your device stay until you remove them or uninstall the app. You can also request access to, or deletion of, your data by emailing satyam@appscale.in; we will action verified requests within a reasonable period.

Security

Sign-in tokens are kept in the iOS Keychain or Android Keystore on your device, and all traffic to our servers is encrypted with HTTPS.

Children

AppScale Blog is a general-audience app and is not directed at children under the age required by your app store or local law. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children below that age. If you believe a child has provided personal data, contact us and we will remove it.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (including under India's DPDP Act and the GDPR), you may have rights to access, correct, delete or export your data, and to withdraw consent. You can correct your name in the app under Account; contact us for anything else.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new "Last updated" date.
